Bukky Smith works at the intersection of strategic communications, ethical storytelling and international development.
Communications is never just about telling stories. It is about power — whose voices are heard, whose experiences are valued, and how those stories influence decisions that affect people's lives.
As Communications Manager at Chance for Childhood, an international development organisation working alongside children with disabilities across East and West Africa, Bukky leads strategic communications that strengthen the organisation's voice and influence. She leads the #OverExposed campaign, challenging the international development sector to move beyond exploitative imagery towards communications rooted in dignity, agency and shared power.
Alongside leading campaigns, Bukky advises senior leaders on communications, develops high-performing teams and mentors emerging professionals. She is passionate about using communications not simply to raise awareness, but to shape culture, influence decision-making and strengthen trust between organisations and the communities they serve.
Bukky also contributes to the sector through governance, serving as a trustee of Word Online and her own charity, and as a founding woman of The Women's Collective. A Member of the Chartered Institute of Public Relations, she is a regular advocate for ethical storytelling, shifting power and communications that reflect the dignity and agency of the people they represent.
Five interconnected areas, each reinforcing the others — all oriented toward organisations that create lasting change alongside the communities they serve.
